MST – How We Began… Gaill and Mark have been close friends ever since Gaill’s daughter was born with dwarfism and the family joined Little People of America (in fact Mark’s mom, Betsy Trombino, was the first Gaill spoke to about dwarfism and she quickly laid all concerns to rest).  Over the years Mark enjoying being a stay-at-home dad for his daughter Priya and part-time actor while his wife, Anu, brought home the bacon.  At the same time, Gaill enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom for Britney, non-profit volunteer, and co-owner of Daddy’s Handyman Services with her husband Bret.  Little did the Mark and Gaill know what life had in store for them….

In December of 2004 both families had their worlds turned upside down. On December 4th, they celebrated together at the Little People of America’s annual Holiday party, both looking forward to the upcoming holidays. Then on December 6th, Gaill’s husband fell off a two-story building while putting up Christmas lights for a client, sustained his second traumatic brain injury, and was eventually forced to permanently retire. Four days later on December 10th, Mark’s wife was coming home from work and was involved in a head-on car collision that left her paralyzed from the neck down (a “mini” Christoper Reeve) and passed away five months later due to complications.

Both were faced with the reality of losing their major bread winners and were wondering what life would bring them next. Gaill was doing volunteer work for a non-profit in Florida that specialized in bully prevention. At the same time Mark was starting to get out and tell his uniquely compelling story. The two got together one day and realized that God knew their plans way before they did, and Motivational Small Talk was born… Mark and Gaill both felt incredibly blessed to be partners and to have had such an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the world!
